Autism Awareness Family Celebrations
The Dallas Museum of Art’s Autism Awareness Family Celebrations provide a safe, comfortable way to introduce the Museum to families of children with autism and show them how they can have a successful visit to the Museum with their child on the Autism Spectrum. Pre-registered families can visit the Museum free of charge and enjoy the Museum’s Center for Creative Connections (C3) before the Museum opens to the public.

On selected days, the Center for Creative Connections will be available for parents and children to play and enjoy art together in a fun environment. Participate in staff-led gallery experiences, enjoy an interactive musical performance, and create a work of art in the studio—all designed in collaboration with an autism specialist. Children will have the chance to relax with occupational therapy students in our TWU Quiet Sensory Room and explore textures in the Young Learners Gallery. Families will have the opportunity to explore the interactives in the Center for Creative Connections during these special private events and are also invited to stay when the Museum opens at 11:00 a.m. to enjoy additional family programming.

Autism Awareness Family Celebrations are offered throughout the year. Check back soon for details about the next event.

In celebration of visual awareness and Art Beyond Sight Awareness month, each October the Dallas Museum of Art offers a variety of programming that  includes hands-on activities, gallery discussions, art-making experiences, and artist demonstrations that focus on ways to experience art using senses other than vision.

Artist John Bramblitt, who was featured on the CBS Evening News leading a program at the DMA, is often a special guest instructor for Art Beyond SIght programs, discussing his process as a painter who is blind.

For general questions regarding Art Beyond Sight programs, or to request a tour for visitors with vision impairment, call 214-922-1251 or e-mail access@DMA.org.

Meaningful Moments

Every third Tuesday with some exceptions
10:00–11:30 a.m.

Designed specifically for individuals with early stage dementia and their family members or caregivers, Meaningful Moments is a monthly program that includes a gallery discussion, an interactive component, and an art-making activity in the Art Studio. Participants will have the chance to relax and connect with art in the galleries, share stories, and gain inspiration.

The program is free, but reservations are required and space is limited. For more information or to register, call 214-922-1251 or e-mail access@DMA.org.

Meaningful Moments is also available for groups from assisted-living facilities specializing in memory care. Call to check date availability and to schedule a visit. Themes and dates vary.
