March Visiting Artist: Ann Marie Newman Ann Marie Newman merges visual and performance art with storytelling to inspire people to see the creativity that is all around them. She uses a variety of materials and myriad techniques in a highly imaginative and sensory-rich approach. You can learn more about her art and work with her during this month’s programs.  Ann Marie Newman will lead the following programs: Make It/Take It: Thursday, March 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tech Lab: Open Lab Thursday, March 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Special March Visiting Artist: John Grandits Award-winning book and magazine designer John Grandits has been fascinated by type and printing all his life. He is the author of two books of concrete poetry: Technically, It’s Not My Fault and Blue Lipstick. His protagonist’s hilarious views of the world are expressed through a series of concrete poems in which words, ideas, type, and art combine to make pictures and patterns. You may have to turn the book sideways and upside down to read them, but laughter is 100% guaranteed. John Grandits will lead the following program: DIY@DMA: Thursday, March 18, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Try your own hand at concrete poetry inspired by works of art. Center for Creative Connections Special Programs Make It/Take It First Thursdays, 6:30–8:30 p.m., Included in general admission to the Museum Try a new material or technique to expand your artistic imagination. Beginners and experts welcome. Second Thursdays, 6:30–8:30 p.m., Included in general admission to the Museum Open Lab is an opportunity to experiment with new media and technology during a drop-in, hands-on program. DIY@DMA Third Thursdays, 6:30 p.m., Included in general admission to the Museum Stop by this month for an art-inspired do-it-yourself project. Drop-ins welcome. Material of the Month: Uncovered Fourth Thursdays, 6:30–8:30 p.m., Included in general admission to the Museum Each month explore the use of a different material featured in the Material of the Month display, which showcases raw materials used in works of art in the Museum’s collections. Creative Process: Inside Out Fifth Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Included in general admission to the Museum Get inside the mind of guest artists as they discuss their creative process and show samples of their “materials.”
