Friday, September 20, featuring Beauxregard

Hear a performance by Fort Worth group Beauxregard. They have just released their second album, Ghosts of the Gaslamp. Their first full-length album, Gryphoemia, was an epic rock opera album with a range of styles from turn of the last century tin-pan alley to late 1970s electro-clash post-punk.

Vanessa Lively
Friday, November 15, featuring Vanessa Lively

Austin, Texas based songwriter Vanessa Lively creates an eclectic blend of folk and world music that beautifully joins heartfelt lyrics with soulful vocals. Drawing on a compelling mix of tempos and styles that embrace “hints of urban, world, Latin, funk and pop,” Lively’s songs fully capture her compassionate nature and love of community. In 2012, Lively signed with Continental Records and has since released her latest album in Europe. Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle describes Vanessa’s music as "folk music on fire with worldly rhythms and a Latin pulse." Lively was recently named one of the Top 10 Artists of the Year by KUNC in Colorado and one of the Top 12 Artists of the Year by Where The Birds Fly in Germany.

This series is part of the monthly Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art program.

Music & Masterpieces

Presented in partnership with the Dallas Opera
FREE

Music & Masterpieces, a new interdisciplinary partnership between the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Museum of Art, unites the performing arts with the visual arts in a new and exciting way. Each Music & Masterpieces program includes a performance by world-renowned musicians inspired by the DMA’s special exhibitions or collection, followed by a gallery tour given by a curator or local expert. Through this pairing, visitors gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of both art forms and the influences they have on one another within a shared theme, era, or culture.

Upcoming Music & Masterpieces:

2:00 p.m. Performance
Tenor David Portillo accompanied by Jason Smith and Kaori Yoshida

3:00 p.m. Tour
Tours of the DMA's collection will feature works of art ranging from ancient times in Mexico and South America to modern Mexican paintings and mosaics.

Texas tenor David Portillo has established a reputation as an accomplished vocalist with “honeyed, perfectly focused singing” (Chicago Tribune). A versatile recitalist, Portillo has appeared with Steven Blier and also performed a Schwabacher Debut Recital under the auspices of the San Francisco Opera Center. In response, the San Francisco Chronicle found that “[h]is tenor rang out clearly and brightly, his diction was exemplary, and he moved with easy assurance from the 17th century to the 20th and through realms in between.”
