Hunter Hendrickson
Friday, February 15, featuring Hunter Hendrickson

Dallas musician Hunter Hendrickson is a dynamic blues and rock musician. Hendrickson's first work, an EP titled Behind the Notes, was released in 2009 at the House of Blues in Dallas. Music critic Mario Tarradell stated, “He’s definitely a local artist to watch,” and he was recently nominated for the 2012 Dallas Observer’s Music Award for Best Blues Act and Best Instrumentalist.

The Beaten Sea, a group formed in Dallas, performs a mix of folk, alt-country, and old-time music to create a sound that is beautiful and unforgettable.

Scary Cherry
Friday, April 19, featuring Scary Cherry and the Bang Bangs
Scary Cherry and the Bang Bangs is a rock band from Dallas. Some describe the music as powerfully melodic girl punk; others label it horror rock. Their rawness and in your face performances haven’t been seen since the punk movement of the 1970s. They recently won the OurStage MTV Partners grand prize, and their newest album, GIRL, debuts on iTunes on February 26.

The Angelus
Friday, May 17, featuring The Angelus
The North Texas band The Angelus, led by vocal powerhouse Emil Rapstine, performs glorious electrified folk music and creates epic sounds. They just released their album On a Dark & Barren Land, of which Simon Raymonde from the Cocteau Twins says, “It feels like every single song is a chapter from a truly important novel.”
 


This series is part of the monthly Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art program.

February 23: Perfect Harmony
Experience the extraordinary talents of Dallas Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Alexander Kerr and pianist Anton Nel as they perform the music of Debussy, Franck, and Gershwin.

March 23: 94 Strings, 20 Fingers and 4 Feet
Harpists Laura Logan and Jeff Walters present an exciting new duo featuring all original arrangements and transcriptions for two harps by Haydn, Brahms, and Mendelssohn and the fiery music of De Falla, along with a little Ellington and Joplin.
 
April 27: Youthful Remembrances
Written when Janacek was seventy years old as a tribute to the composer’s music-inspired youth, Mladi sextet for winds will be performed by members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
 
May 11: Charles Barr Memorial Concert
The seventh annual Charles Barr Memorial Concert features young violin virtuoso Christine Wu with pianist Deborah Austin presenting the music of Brahms, Schumann, Ysaÿe, and Waxman.

Undermain Theatre, voted "Best Theatre" by D magazine in 2010 and hailed as “one of the best small theaters in America,” will continue its acclaimed reading series at the Dallas Museum of Art. These rare and varied works, drawn from many theatrical traditions, are fully produced readings accompanied by a feast of sound and visuals.

The Conference of The Birds
 
As Undermain Theatre’s 29th season, the Season of the Myth, continues, join Undermain and their talented cast of actors for a staged reading of The Conference of The Birds. The classic 12th-century Persian poem of a quest for the king of the birds was first adapted by Peter Brook and Jean-Claude Carrière in a groundbreaking theatrical production in 1979. Bring the whole family to this rare opportunity to hear this classic adaptation read aloud with music ,and join the Hoopoe, the Dove, the Falcon, and others as the birds cross through the seven valleys in their journey to find a new king, and perhaps, enlightenment.

Sacrifice

 
Undermain Theatre continues its popular reading series with a staged reading of Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali drama Sacrifice. One of the finest writers of the 20th century, Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and his poetry is still read the world over. Sacrifice (or Visarjan) is considered to be one of his finest plays. Hear Undermain’s cast of actors perform Tagore’s riveting drama of royal intrigue and the mythic struggle to end blood sacrifices in the temple of the goddess of war.

Music & Masterpieces, a new interdisciplinary partnership between the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Museum of Art, unites the performing arts with the visual arts in a new and exciting way. Each Music & Masterpieces program includes a performance by world-renowned musicians inspired by the DMA’s special exhibitions or collection, followed by a gallery tour given by a curator or local expert. Through this pairing, visitors gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of both art forms and the influences they have on one another within a shared theme, era, or culture.
